“Liz Gutfahr, a 30-year employee of real estate developer Rio Rico Properties, won the Democratic primary for Santa Cruz County treasurer on Tuesday, giving her a clear path toward assuming the office currently held by Caesar Ramirez.
“My election went great. I’m very happy that I had the support of the community,” Gutfahr said of the unofficial results that, as of Thursday morning, showed her with 44 percent (1,775) of the votes to 34 percent (1,375) for Ramirez, who is in the midst of a four-month suspension for failing to rectify his accounting with the county’s bank statements.
“I never thought I was going to win,” Gutfahr said. “I was hoping I was going to win, of course, but it was a tough race.” (Read more)
